South West, Devon Area news

26 March 2019

March area news

We unveiled and christened the new two sided TSSC Devon
banner flags on 10 February. Nigel has done a great job
designing and sourcing these flags, which means that he and
we can carry one each to display at our events. Having postponed
our February run for a week because of snow over the
moor, we still had a good turnout for the run. The weather
overnight was dire, so a lot of water in places, but the 38 mile
run was still enjoyable. Meeting in Triumphs were Allan &
Jackie, Simon, Tim & Dawn, Nigel & Sharon, Steve W and
for the first time for a long time, Eric & Rita. Lovely to see
Allan reunited with the steering wheel after an enforced
absence during which Jackie valiantly held the wheel. Eric
& Rita’s Vitesse was sporting a very smart white hardtop from
Honeybourne Mouldings in Alcester. Tempting? Peter stayed
for lunch until the Rugby called. Dan had Mum Louise, sister
Jas and young Malachi on board, Mike & Irene resorted
to the Mini, whilst we took the Mx5 from our stable. Ian &
Karen brought their Scimitar, a lovely looking car – even if it
is brown! Great run to the Sportsmans Inn, in improving
weather, but with a few unscheduled water splashes thrown
in.
February Club Night at the Claycutters actually saw 3
Triumphs out to play, Peter B’s and Nigel’s Spitfires, and joining
them was a very smart newcomer from Cornwall. Great
to see Colin and his TR7/8 which he has been working on
for around 2 years. Looking very smart in yellow with black
trimmings – the car that is! With us for the first time was
Somerset AO Harry Every who now probably thinks we are
all a trifle on the mad side! Amongst all the banter, we did
sort out a few things, gave out entry forms for a couple of
shows, took entries for others, and reminded members of
the the inter-club skittles on 24 March.
Storm Freya interfered a little in our March run. Huge thanks
to Steve Woollett for organizing a breathtaking run over the
moor despite the weather. Meeting at the Salmon’s Leap
café for brekkie then off we went for a 50 mile run passing
12 Dartmoor Tors en route. 8 Triumphs (mostly hard tops
due to the weather) and a smattering of moderns. Steve led
off, followed by his brother Nick in a 240Z Datson, then more
Triumphs, Rob L, Allan & Jackie, Maurice & Mary, Dan &
Chad, Jas with young Malachi, Dave F and Jayne and lastly
Shane & Lisa’s immaculate Dolly Sprint fresh from restoration.
A smattering
of moderns
should
have included
our MX5
except that
someone (not
me) managed
to lock
his car key in the boot. Thanks to Nigel & Sharon for being
our chauffeurs! It would be an idea to do this lovely run again
in the summer so we can really see the tors and views which
were obliterated by the weather. Mark & Jane came along
with the brilliant news that the have bought back the Mk4
Spitfire which they sold a few years back, so we look forward
to seeing them out again soon.

if you can let u know if you find you cannot make it. Its only

If you’d like to do our drive beforehand, contact Nigel as we
will be starting at the House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey.
With a big group travelling to the Isle of Wight for their
Triumph Weekend, those not going may like to turn up at
Route 5 at the top of Haldon Hill (opposite the racecourse)
for the informal Southwest Triumph Meet and Brunch on
Sunday 5 May, organized by Andy Moss from Plymouth.
Who recalls the petrol advert ‘Put a Tiger in your Tank’? On
Father’s Day Sunday 16 June, Nigel has arranged for us to
go to the Zoo and you can come too. Dartmoor Zoo will welcome
us and our cars – driver and passenger will be free,
